The Crime
Friends and family said yesterday that Lodge had gone to an mixed martial arts event at Screaming Willie’s on Friday February 6th, 2009 but they weren’t sure who he was with or what he was doing in the hours that followed.
We have since found that Christian was at Oldfield’s on 4th St. in the Near North Side. Shortly before the incident.
Lodge traveled north on 4th St “in a white Nissan Pathfinder” until the driver of the vehicle turned left on E. 13th. At this point the passenger (John Doe 1) in the rear of the vehicle with Christian caused an altercation with the driver (John Doe 2) who subsequently pulled over in front of 182 E. 13th Ave. John Doe 2 left the keys with John Doe 1 and left, leaving John Doe 1 and Christian at the scene.
It is our understanding at this point, Christian was attempting to get the keys from John Doe 1 to prevent him from driving. At some point during this time, a group of individuals came upon these two. An altercation occurred between the group and these two with Christian being hit (most likely multiple times), falling and hitting his head on the pavement.
Officers found Lodge about 3 a.m. in front of 182 E. 13th Ave. in the University District with injuries to his head, Columbus police said. Medics took him to Ohio State University Medical Center, where he died soon after arriving.
Police had not identified a suspect or motive as of February 8th.

This was the 10th homicide in the city this year.
